I found myself getting anxious for the month of May to be over with so I could get my June Rainbow Honey Mystery Bag. I eagerly anticipate ripping open the bubble mailer to see what amazing scent is going to greet me each month and June was the best one yet. As usual there were 3 polishes and some other goodies.

This month's extras were some mini cuticle sticks, some white and lime green pearls, perfume in the scent Nucifera, an exfoliating sugar scrub in the scent Tea Biscuit and a cuticle balm in Tea Biscuit. Nucifera is a pleasant fragrance described as being on a beach. I like it. Tea Biscuit is a nutty vanilla scent that literally smells like a cookie. The note that came with the package says "Please do not eat"! It's that good.
Those type of scents are my favorites.

This is my first experience with a cuticle balm outside of Burt Bees and I am in love. It absorbed right away leaving my cuticles looking and feeling fantastic not to mention smelling incredible. There was no residue, it was not sticky. I didn't have to reapply until the next day and even then my cuticles were not in desperate need. I usually use California Mango cuticle oil which I swear by but I do have to reapply often. I am so pleased with this, it is my favorite item out of the entire bag this month!

Now onto the polishes. Upon first glance my thought was "oh pink". I wasn't quite sure how I felt about them but after really looking at them, I was very pleased. Each is completely unique to my collection.

Rose Macaron is a soft pink crelly with pink and gold micro glitters as well as purple, pink, yellow and gold glitters. It's a very feminine and pretty polish.

Pikake is the glitter topper in the group. I used it for the swatches over another Rainbow Honey Cameo 18 from the April Mystery Bag. I will be trying this over other colors as well but I was in a neon mood. I photographed it under several different lighting conditions because of the difficulty capturing the true color of the neon pink.
Last is my favorite of the three and that is Ichigo. Ichigo is a fuchsia jelly with purple and blue iridescent
flakies. In the bottle I thought it was maroon and didn't seem like the most exciting of colors. It almost appeared like a vial of blood. Sorry for that image but I wanted to give and honest reaction! When I swatched it I instantly changed my mind! It's really pretty. My only complaint would be that the formula was a bit thick and with the flakies in the jelly application was tough. It was very thick. I ended up having to use a lot of polish just for this swatch and with it being a mini you can tell from the first photo on this page how much is gone already from just one hand! That being said, it's worth the effort.
Here is my video review of this bag as well. I don't have anything to dupes any of these so I have nothing to compare them to. I am very pleased overall with my third consecutive Rainbow Honey bag.
It's been no secret who my favorite glitter indie polish brand is and that is Laquerlicious. This shade is glitter on X. Described as a clear base with a crazy mix of silver, black, magenta,
and teal hologram glitter in hex, square, circle and triangle shapes. And let's not forget the pink stars! I would describe it as a mermaid disco ball explosion in polish form. It's beyond beautiful. I love the color choices here as teal and pink are two of my favorite colors and the possibilities for combinations you can use this with are endless. This is Laquerlicious Bling-A-Ling.

I chose two distinctly different manicures when I wore this. I have many more in mind and will be wearing this as my go to when I want to bling out my nails. For the first way I chose to layer Bling-A-Ling over a dark base but I didn't want to use pure black. Since there are black shapes also in the mix I did not want to loose them entirely. I chose to use two coats of Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam which is a darkened teal polish. I then used two coats of Bling-A-Ling using the dab method to make sure I got good coverage. I sealed it all up with one coat of Seche Vite.
I didn't win any polish from that contest but I did win the ultimate prize, I found this gem of an indie polish maker. My first purchase was a LE Valentine's Day polish and from that moment on I was hooked. I was lucky enough to get two of her polishes that were featured in the A Indied subscription box offered by Llarowe. There was a few left over and although I didn't subscribe I was able to purchase them individually.

I love everything about Laquerlicious glitter bombs. Each one is chocked full of so many different shapes, sizes and colors of glitters. You will never get the same look twice. They are incredibly versatile. I have so much polish it's that fact alone has me reaching for my bottles time and time again. The possibilities are endless once you change up what you layer them with. Glitter heavy polishes are not for everyone but there is nobody who makes them better than Michelle.

First up is Blowin' Bubbles. When I look at this polish I smile. It's a clear base jam packed with what is described as "a fun mix of circle (bubble) glitter, star glitter, silver hologram glitter, pastel hex & dot
glitter and neon pink glitter!" I couldn't agree more. The first thing I thought of when I saw this bottle is my favorite childhood show Jem and the Holograms. I decided to do my manicure with another childhood favorite of mine My Little Pony. For this look I used a base of Lime Crime Crema de Limon then a layer of Blowin' Bubbles. I then added layer of L'Oreal Bananarama Love from the Miss Candy collection. I topped it off with another layer of Blowin' Bubbles then a coat of Seche Vite. For the accent nail I used My Boyfriend Scales Walls and then a decal using My Online Shop plate Jr-11. I used Crema de Limon for the hair and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Knockout Pink for the pony.

Next is Sip of Summer. A clear base with pastel glitters in hex, star and triangle glitters. I love that you can layer this over anything. The matte glitters are a perfect edition to this trio of toppers. It works for jelly sandwiches or to look like sprinkles on a cupcake. The glitters are great sized, not too large. It even looks really cool over black. For this look I wanted to showcase the glitters so I only used one coat of Sip of Summer over SinfulShine Pragmatic with an accent of another decal made using My Online Shop plate Special Edition and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes in I-rush Luck and In Record Lime. The white in the Carebear belly is Zoya Purity. I used one coat of Seche Vite on all nails.

Last up is my personal favorite of the three and that's Crazy Daisies. It has all of my favorite things especially neon pink and green. I am pretty sure I had a folder that looked like this in the 9th grade. It has everything a glitter topper loving girl like me could ever ask for. It's described as "This polish is a clear base with a crazy mix of neon daisies,
transparent hearts, pastel hex glitter, star glitter, iridescent glitter
and black and white triangles!" Whew! What's not to love??? For this manicure I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls on my index and ring fingers and a base of Hit Polish Scotland the Brave on my middle and pinkie. I then layered one coat of Laquerlicious neon glitter in At the Lake before topping them all off with Crazy Daisies. For my stamping I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Knockout Pink using Fab UR Nails plate FUN 3.

You can find these at the Laquerlicious shop here or by visiting www.laquerlicious.com. I highly recommend all three!
Today I have a collection for you from my very favorite glitter maker Laquerlicious that embodies one of the most iconic element of my favorite decade... neon. From bright green rubber sunglasses to hot pink tee shirts tied in a knot, in the 80's neon was everywhere. Like all fads or trends, neon has made a comeback recently and especially for the summer of 2014 in nail polish everywhere. The best neons on the planet right now are in the form of this mind blowing trio.

These dense glitters are the most vivid glitter combinations I have ever seen. The bright pink in Beat the Heat is that intense in person. Each are a clear base then backed with two different color neon glitter and some micro flakies. It's brilliant. Like all Laquerlicious glitter polishes these are incredibly versatile. If applied carefully enough they can be opaque in two coats or you can use them as a glitter topper over white or with any color.

These polishes are so incredibly sparkly as well!

Lemon Limeade is neon yellow and green glitters with neon green micro flakies. At the Lake is neon blue and purple glitters with electric blue for the micro flakies and with Beat the Heat is a combination of neon pink and hot orange glitters and neon pink micro flakies, I think that touch of the second glitter shade really elevates these.

I decided to do them each in two different ways to show you the many possibilities. One very popular look right now on Instagram first done by @Madamluck uses all three in a gradient and is absolutely stunning. For my swatches I used the glitters over a similar base color on two nails with nail art using the glitters and stamping for one look and with the other chose lighter colors and used them as toppers.

This is two coats of Beat the Heat over Zoya Kiki on the index and pinkie fingers. For my ring and middle fingers I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and stamped BM-317 using Kleancolor black and filled it in using Beat the Heat. Application was really great and despite being a dense glitter, I didn't have any issues. Everything is top coated with one coat of Seche Vite.

For this manicure I chose to layer Beat the Heat over a polish I think is the perfect bubble gum pink. This is SinfulShine Your's Truly with two light coats of Beat the Heat and one coat of Seche Vite. This way let the real beauty of those neon flakies come out. I really loved it both ways.

Lemon Limeade had the thickest formula of the three. For this look I did two coats Lemon Limeade over two coats of Wet n' Wild Spoiled polish I'm So Jaded. For the nail art I again used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and then stamped plate BM-308 using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in In Record Lime. I finally filled in some of the wedges with Lemon Limeade. Everything is topped with one coat Seche Vite.

For this one I chose to layer it over two coats of Lime Crime Crema de Limon. I thought that it was a great color choice and perfect given the name! I used a thicker coat on my middle finger and it's hard to see the undies. I will definitely wear this combo again but this time only use one coat of Lemon Limeade. This is also the most sparkly of the three polishes.

For my nail art using At the Lake I layered two coats over Hit Polish Scotland the Brave which is a scattered holographic blue polish that was the closest shade I had to the neon blue glitters in At the Lake. I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales walls and Kleancolor black again for the two accent nails and stamped Mash-498 for the wave design. I then used Essie I'm Addicted to fill in some areas. I thought it would be much more sheer and I was attempting to do the leadlight stamping technique. I then used OPI I Can Teal You Like Me from the sheer tints collection to do a few more areas on the tips and the cuticle area and then finally using At the Lake for the body of the waves. All nails have a coat of Seche Vite.

Finally for a softer but yet so neon look, I chose to layer two thin coats of At the Lake over Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Blue-Away. It looks soft but yet has a neon feel to it. I loved this one very much.

I cannot wait to try these over different colors and over white. I can see them over other bright neons as well as punching up softer pastel shades. You need to invest in these if you haven't already. You can get them here or by going to http://www.laquerlicious.com/. The set is only $21.00! Everything Michelle makes is fantastic and these polishes are no exceptions. I will have some more of her polishes on the blog soon. You do not want to miss those.
Back in the end of 2013 Rachel, the brilliant mind behind Hit Polish announced that another business venture she had with her hubby would need her full attention and that she was no longer going to be making polish. She had a huge "Everything Must Go!!" sale and even threw away all her recipes and supplies.

The other business did well enough for her to open up shop once again on May 15th of 2014. Thing will be done a bit differently this time as she is doing it as a hobby. Her currently line up is going to be available for purchase through August 14th. The plan is to keep things simple and assess sales and demand sometime in July and then decide what products will be kept for the new relaunch. There were two LE polishes also available that will not be a part of the permanent line up. There is an impressive 35 polishes I believe that will be for sale. The majority of those are spectraflair polishes. Just before she closed up the old shop she had introduced them and they were very popular. This launch I picked up three of the new colors.

The formula on all three was very similar. Each one went on a bit sheer for the first coat and dried quickly with a second thicker coat making them almost opaque. There is a bit of visible nail line especially with Scotland the Brave but that is perfectly fine by me. A third coat would easily have covered it. This is very similar in formula to several other holos from other brands.
As a fan of them, I get to choose between some of the most phenomenal polishes on the planet. It makes it a bit hard though with so many to pick from, deciding on brands to patronize can be an overwhelming experience. I keep a notebook specifically for polishes. When I come across something I like, I jot it down. One brand that I had noticed was on there several times was Rainbow Honey. I had it in the back of my mind as one I wanted to try for quite some time but never ordered from them. Recently I signed up for an Ipsy subscription and while on the wait list I saw in the April 2014 bag there was a Rainbow Honey polish. I was so jealous I missed out on it but I did get the Ipsy code giving me a 25% discount. I decided at the time to try the mystery bag of the month. It is for sale for $10 or free with any purchase over $65. Starting in May, Rainbow Honey decided to offer a monthly subscription.

The price is still the $10.00 + shipping. It was billed on the 30th of April and I got my shipping notice late Sunday evening. My bag showed up on Tuesday the 6th. I was pleased with the speed in which the package came. Immediately upon opening the bubble mailer I could smell the goodies inside. This month's package included a perfume and soap in the scent Summer Juice, a lip balm in Enter Lime, and then an envelope containing 5 mini orange sticks and 2 sponge cosmetic applicators. I realized I didn't have a decent photo of them so I will snap one tomorrow and update the blog.
First up I have Waves. This is going to be part of the upcoming summer collection. It's described as glass-flecked shimmer sparkles in turquoise and gold. It's stunning. I love how this one looks on. It's gorgeous. My photos look a bit more blue than it actually is.
Next is a fantastic summer glitter called Neon Blossom. It contains hot pink heart glitters and yellow flower glitters. It's my first ever flower glitter. It's also got some small neon green square glitter and some white glitter throughout. I adore this. I have layered it here over Sally Hansen Insta-Dri shades In a Splash, Pink Blink, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Chartreuse Chase. I did have to fish a bit for some of the glitters. Shown without top coat.
I saved my favorite for last. It's no secret I love a good crelly glitter polish and this is no exception. From what the card inside the bag says this is going to be part of a "collection of confections". I can't wait. Here is Petit Four. This is 2 coats with one coat of KB Shimmer Clearly On Top. I think next time I will do 3 thin coats instead. I can't say enough about how much I love this. It's a yellow with pink and aqua glitters. (actually looking at the macro shot below there is way more going on there than I first realized!) It's so perfect for summer.
One of those is for the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line of polishes. Anytime a new collection comes out I have to have them. I use them almost exclusively for stamping and nail art as well as when I need a polish to wear and am short on time. I started my love affair with them after I would use my hour long lunches from work to drive over to my nearest CVS or Walmart and buy a polish then paint my nails in my car. I did this many times and started to collect some really cool shades. After I discovered stamping I went crazy and bought a ton of them. The majority of them would be opaque in one coat and dry very quickly. Not all the polishes in the Insta-Dri line are so opaque, one such polish was a shifting polish called Grape Going!.

Today while browsing my local Walmart I spotted a purple shade of polish that I hadn't seen before. It was similar to Orchid Express which was a LE. I grabbed it and immediately did a double take. The label said 410 Grape Going! but this was a super purple shade not the blue/purple flash sheer polish I knew I had in my stash. I dug back behind the other two bottles in the display case to find that exact bottle I recalled.
As you can see it looks like they have switched to a new more opaque polish. There is nothing remotely similar in these polishes save for the name and the fact they are purple. I wish they had just gave the new one a different name. I am not sure if they are discontinuing the old one so get it while you still can. I will be using the new one for stamping for sure. It's so pretty.
I have a ton of things coming up for my blog this weekend. I have been working on some incredible macro shots and some videos so expect a few posts to catch me up.

In the meantime, I wanted to explain why I am using the name Miss Kitty Nails for my blog. I know when I first decided to create a blog I had a little trouble coming up with a name that I could use. Since it seems like so many people are blogging about nail polish most of the names I came up with were either already taken or not really a good fit for me. I really want to eventually make my own polish brand and I wanted to keep that long term goal in mind as I chose my online persona.

I chose Miss Kitty Nails actually because of something that my boyfriend suggested. Miss Kitty is our senior aged cat. She was adopted by him from a local rescue nearly 20 years ago. She wasn't a kitten back then either so we have no idea how old she is. Miss Kitty is one of the most precious creatures on this Earth. She's adorable, she's incredibly loving and she makes me smile every single day. She is my inspiration as I do what I do to take care of her and my other cats. I wanted a name that was fun and playful and could be made into a cute logo someday. I hope that clarifies things a little to anyone who might have been curious about it.
Here is picture of the princess herself.
For me, that name is from the Scofflaw polish called David Bowie's Bulge. Inspired by the Aladdin Sane album cover, this polish is one of a kind. I am a huge fan of crelly glitter polishes and this baby is no exception. Described as a rich, deep coral polish with subtle shimmer. It's accented with matte
and holographic teal glitters of various sizes and also features small
dark red glitters and a bronze microglitter." it really has a lot going on. I love the complexity of this polish.

I have so many untried polishes and David Bowie's Bulge was on that list. I decided I wanted to do something special when I wore it. I purchased some nail plates recently and have not used them either so it was a perfect fit. I used the Special Edition plate from My Online Shop to create my own stamping decals. I plan on doing a post about that soon.

The Little Mermaid stamping decals

I used my favorite creme polish, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, for the remaining three fingers. For each decal I used a very tiny dotting tool to paint on the polish. I used 100% nail polish for all the decals. For Flounder I used mostly Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes. His fins are a combination of Blue-Away and Blue-ming Fast. His tongue as well as Sebastians are Fuschia Flare also from the Insta-Dri line. For his body I used my go to yellow in Lightening. His eyes are Milani White on the Spot. For Ariel I used Sinful Colors in Poudre
for her skin and first layered Sinful Colors in Citrine for her hair. I
thought it was a bit too orange and since Citrine was almost jelly like
I layered Sinful Colors Laced Up on top. (err actually underneath).
For Sebastian I used Laced Up on most of his body with his face in Essie
Mamba and his shell in OPI Painted Desert Cinnamon. I topped everything off with a coat of KB
Shimmer Clearly On Top because it's my favorite top coat in the history
of ever.
I was initially drawn in because of Rockin Housewife a hot pink, glow in the dark polish with black and white glitters and some larger white skull glitters. This polish screams "ME". The day I discovered this brand I liked them on Facebook and carried on my life as normal without making a purchase or really looking at any of the other polishes she had including the ones in the Pink Isn't Just a Color, It's an Attitude collection.

Fast forward a few months. On Valentine's Day there were a ton of indie polish sales going on. I hadn't planned on shopping that day but noticed Dashing Housewife was one of the ones who was having a sale so I went back to the site and actually started looking at the polishes. I selected three that looked interesting and placed my order.

My polish arrived in the most adorable packaging. There was a hand written note and a cute patterned duct tape strip along the back. Inside was all 3 polishes packed up in individual bubble wrap with cute tape holding it together and then placed inside a lovely bag with glitter ribbon tying it together. I am a sucker for this level of detail. Dashing Housewife won cool points with me there.

The polishes I chose were all from the Pink Isn't Just a Color, It's an Attitude collection and included a white crelly polish, a glow in the dark polish and a thermal. I had some weird issue with my thermal. Best as I can figure it may have gotten in some extreme temperatures in the shipping and it didn't work when I got it. Well, that's not true... it worked only when sticking an ice cube on my finger and the moment I removed it the effect disappeared. I only mention this because the service I received upon contacting Dashing Housewife was second to none. I was given a replacement bottle that works perfectly.

After seeing a flash sale via Instagram I went back and purchased two more polishes from Dashing Housewife. This time one was a glitter polish from the This Is Halloween collection and the other is a special polish created for someone battling Lymphoma. This polish is not only beautiful but the reason behind it struck a cord with me having lost some loved ones to cancer recently. I received these as well (along with my replacement thermal) in the world's cutest packaging. Once again I was smitten by the bag my polish was wrapped in.
I will have a post for the polishes themselves up shortly. This brand is one to keep an eye on and one you should certainly try. The polishes are fantastic.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12398095131104684260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2829704716827839187.post-44015842467343011272014-02-24T09:23:00.000-08:002014-02-24T09:24:20.118-08:00Pretty in purple nailsI have been dying to try some tone on tone nail art lately after seeing some amazing designs online. I thought this would be the perfect way for me to use two of my recent acquisitions. I chose to use Emily de Molly Cosmic Forces, Zoya Carter and Polish TBH Alice After Eight. My original intent was to do some stamping on my accent finger but that didn't turn out so I scrapped that entirely and grabbed Alice After Eight instead.
I love the way this turned out. Alice After Eight is a thermal holographic polish that changes from a pink in it's warm state to purple in the cold state. This polish has a great formula. Shown in two coats no top coat. Carter is shown in three coats. Of course there is no top coat on that one. Cosmic Forces is three coats as well and one coat of KB Shimmer Clearly On Top. I may use it over another polish in the future but I wanted to see the depth of the polish on it's own. I had no issues fishing for the larger glitters. I actually purposely took any large glitters off the brush the first two coats anyway because I wanted them on top. I set the bottle upside down maybe five minutes before the last coat and was able to get them on the brush with no difficulty at all. I love seeing how everyone's looks! There are a quite a few that leave me speechless and in awe but I have to say my own polish room pretty awesome in it's own right. I have spent the majority of my life without a space that was just mine. With the exception of a bedroom I had in my house where I had a Hide & Sleep Bed Tent, I have always had to compromise my idea for someone else. Not anymore! When we bought our house 2 years ago, my boyfriend and I purchased a house with 5 bedrooms and a few other really great spaces like the loft and the room we turned into a library. With the exception of our furry housemates and the room my mom uses when she spends 6 months with us, it's all ours!! The second largest room in the house was painted pink with one accent wall in pink and white stripes. I initially liked the room until I started to work from home and the pink was just way too obnoxious for me. I added some IKEA furniture, painted all the walls but one gray and TADA... my perfect sanctuary was born. (the other wall is Chroma Key green for doing green screen work)

I turned this into the polish haven sometime in the past 6 months. I love this room. It's so perfect for me. I continue to try and find solutions that fit not only my style and aesthetic preferences but my budget as well. The more money I spend on places to put my polish, the less I have to spend on polish itself!

The nail polish/office is in two parts. First is the nail art center as I like to think of it. This is where I do most of my stamping, decals, photos, and where I store the majority of my supplies. My light box is in progress right now but does work OK for now. There are extra supplies in the drawers under the table as well as bins for my stampers, extra brushes and tools or anything else I might need to create. The bottle of water is there for nail art too as it's what I use for water marbling. In the corner are my two Melmers that are almost full. I got them at Michael's on Black Friday for 50% off. I am going to get a Helmer or two when I next make the hour long trip to Ikea then move these to my master bathroom for my makeup. (or just fill up the Helmers with new polish!!) The green binder is filled with stamping plates as is the one on the table with the cat.
The second half of my room is where my wall rack is. My table used to be on this wall and there is still a table here but I don't do as much nail art on it because I have 2 floor lamps over by the desk and the table lamp and my polish storage on my walls right now are foam racks. I won't lie. I am not the best at hot glue carpentry so they are pretty terrible. As you will see one whole shelf is completely empty because it's falling down. I have tried to repair it several times but I get cold easily when I am working from home so I shut the vent and the room heats up and the glue gets soft. I want to replace them with acrylic racks some day.
I ordered Rebel and Cosmo so I could try one of each. After nearly 2 weeks of delays due to weather and the polishes not being ready, I finally received them today. I am only posting swatches so if anyone is interested in finding swatches of these two can look at them while I work on more detailed information. I have not seen any swatches yet of this one while you can find them now for the Magical Pixies. I didn't even have time to watermark these yet.
Well, quite frankly blog at all it seems. I started this blog with the intention of doing a lot more but I tend to end up posting all my stuff on the Make Up Talk nail forums and do not invest the time to do things here instead. I plan on changing that. I would like to do more in depth swatches of my many recent polish acquisitions. I find that part of my hesitation is a lot of what I have is discontinued or completely unavailable for purchase. I don't want to start putting up pictures of things and disappointing any readers that might happen on this page. With that being said, I have to laugh at myself. My first real posting was on vintage polish which is, in most cases, gone forever. I guess that makes me a liar. I have tons of wonderful polish in my collection as I have been blessed in 2013. I have met some incredible people though the aforementioned MUT forums and even participated in a Secret Santa nail swap! It was an amazing experience and through it I received as one of my gifts the polish most on my want list.... OPI Black Spotted.

I would like to focus more on my nail art. I have an entire thread dedicated to reverse nail stamping and creating your own nail decals that I would like to put on here as well. I am obsessed with stamping but haven't done much in the way of it lately due to too many new polishes I just have to use. I also was gifted several rhinestones and tools for Christmas and am thinking about venturing into the land of 3D nail art as well.

I look forward to the possibilities that 2014 holds for me. I hope to grow my indie collection to epic proportions. I just got a Melmer recently and am looking forward to some acrylic shelving to replace my foam racks. Just visit the indie lovers thread over at the Make Up Talk forums and you will find me posting constantly. I first tried Hit Polish because she made a Green Bay Packers glitter polish and I had to have it. I am so glad I did. I can not say enough wonderful things about every single experience that I have had with Hit Polish. The wonderful master behind Hit Polish is Rachel. While I do not personally know her, I feel like she's a long lost friend. She's incredibly dedicated to her customers and is really genuine. Her shipping is ninja like and her interaction with her customers is one of my favorite things about the brand. I feel like she's making polish just for me and my closest polish loving friends.

Today I am featuring the Dark Crystal collection that was offered as a mini themed grab back late last month. I had wanted to review it but since it was a limited edition I didn't want to get anyone excited for something they couldn't have. This line has been slightly reformulated and is being reintroduced and will be available for purchase very soon. There will be full sized versions as well.

As always shipping was incredibly fast. Granted, mine only has to come about 8 hours away but I placed an order on Friday and by Monday afternoon it was sitting in my mailbox!!! It was wrapped in the signature zebra print baggie with an adorable Dark Crystal sticker adorning the front. I must confess I tore through the packaging on this one so quickly as I was incredibly eager to see what was inside. I love mystery bags. Especially ones themed after movies I adore. The Dark Crystal does not disappoint.

Aughra's Orrey is a golden jelly packed with tons of golden glitters. It also has what look like holographic pastel glitters. In the light it reflects a teal and purple shimmer for a completely unique combination that makes this golden gem stand out. This is shown with three thin coats but it can easily be layered over other polish. I didn't have a gold base at all to use. There appears to be a defect on the middle finger but in fact that is my reflection while taking the photo. I actually really like it layered over black.

I'm Skeksis & I Know It is a beautiful glitter polish. It's packed with blue and silver glitters and even some burgundy circles and smaller scattered purple glitter all in a clear base. I am wearing one coat over two coats of Essence Grey-T To Be Here.

The Dark Crystal is the namesake of the bunch and truly lives up to it. It's a purple polish with holographic glitters, purple shard glitter and gold glitter. This polish stands out. I searched my stash to realize I had no purple glitter polishes that were not top coats. It's unique, rich, and so incredibly dense with sparkle. In my swatches it appears almost blurple but that is not what this really looks like. It can be worn alone or layered over something which is what I did here. This is over one coat of Wet n' Wild Spoiled in 2 Weeks Sober.

I saved my favorite for last. We Are Again One is a milky white/tan polish crelly with gold and what I would call charcoal colored glitters. It has a shimmer quality that is extremely subtle but really helps this polish stay that one step above the competition. This is in the same vein as the recent Hard Candy candy sprinkles line that was relaunched this spring. What makes We Are Again One different is it's simplicity. The use of just a few colors keeps this from being just your every day jawbreaker looking nail polish and gives it a sophistication that similar style polishes do not have. I think the base not being stark white is a smart choice. The formula is fantastic on it compared to the Hard Candy which get thick and very difficult to use very quickly.
These should be released on October 26th at 3pm with her relaunch. It appears I'm Skeksis & I Know It won't be being re-released which is unfortunate but I am sure she's going to have something amazing to take it's place. This collection just touches the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Hit Polish is capable of. I have, by far, more polish from her than any other indie brand. The prices are good and she often does sales. Her service is excellent and shipping is second to none.
Some days you just see a product and think to yourself "I have to
have that". That is what happened when I saw the Halloween 2013
collection from indie polish brand Glitter Daze. I have been dying to
try a thermal nail polish now for as long as I can remember. I felt
like this polish literally jumped off the screen and grabbed me like a
zombie in a horror film. As fate would have it, it was payday and they
were being launched during my lunch hour.

I was so
eager to have this polish I splurged for the 2 day shipping which was
considerably more than the regular by weight option. So I waited. I
then received my email stating my package was shipping. Without getting
into a whole lot of detail, my package was inadvertently delayed and
wouldn't be shipping on the 15th as originally thought but would go out
on the 18th instead. I sent a very angry email to Glitter Daze in
protest. I was met with some amazing customer service. An explanation
was given along with an apology and my shipping was refunded from the
express amount to the regular shipping rate. This was just over $5.00.
I am incredibly pleased with the service I was given by Glitter Daze. I
was made a loyal customer by the gestures that were extended for me.
My biggest complaint in this entire world is lack of human interaction
and decency and I was more than shown this courtesy.

On
to the polish. I finally got my package today. With the anticipation
of a child on Christmas I unwrapped the beautiful little bundle nestled
in pink tissue paper and cuddled with bubble wrap. I am sucker for a
pretty packaging .
This polish is amazing. I buy quite
a bit of indie glitter/crelly polishes and this one was top notch. It
went on super smooth. The formula is a bit thick but that did not work
against it. In two coats it was opaque and perfect. The glitters don't
drag on the second coat and I had no issues with distributing them at
all. When I first saw this polish online with a macro shot of the
bottle, it did not do this polish justice. There are all kinds of
glitters packed inside here. The larger rectangular black ones remind
me of the chocolate chips inside Bryers Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream.
There's small red glitters and what look like holographic glitters that
give it so much sparkle. I never would have gotten that from the
initial images I saw.

Being my first thermal I wasn't
sure what to expect. I hope they all act like this. The transitions
are quick and so much fun to look at. I love seeing how cold one room
is compared to the others. It wasn't just here's the warm color on your
nail closest to your skin and your tips are red. There are in between
colors and an when it's kind of cool it almost looks pink and reminds me
of Ghiradelli Peppermint Bark candy.

Bottom line: You need this polish.
I love yellow. I knew immediately what I wanted to do for this day as well. This design has been done to death recently with the release of Despicable Me 2 but I wanted my shot at it too and it will have a tie in or two come the rest of the challenge.

I am so happy with the way it came out. I had some camera issues and should be updating this with better pictures as soon as I can but still even with a blurry iPhone camera these are adorable. For the yellow I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lightening. The blue is Revlon Top Speed in Superstitious. This is a fantastic blue polish. I can not say enough about it. The black is Sinful Colors in Black on Black. The eyeballs are Sinful Colors Snow Me White. For the goggles I used China Glaze Holographic in Cosmic Dust. That was genius! The eyes to me are my favorite part. My boyfriend said they looked like real googly eyes. Lastly the mouth is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Fuchsia Flare.

I hope I can do this again when my nails grow out so I have more room for facial expression and for hair or perhaps I will make shorter pants. I am loving how due to my inconsistent nail lengths I have short fat minions and tall skinny ones.
After red comes orange. I have 40 different shades of orange in my current stash and was stoked to create nail art with this color. I knew immediately what I wanted to accomplish with the design. Initially I wanted to do 5 little cat faces on my nails using the Bundle Monster stamp M91 but it was just too tiny. The background was too dark and it didn't show up. Thankfully I have a very honest boyfriend who gives me legitimate and critical feedback and I was able to change things up. I am thrilled with how it turned out. It was even better than I imagined it.

This ended up being so appropriate as well because I had just bought tickets to a speaking engagement with Jackson Galaxy the cat behaviorist. I am a huge fan and actually applied to be on his show "My Cat From Hell" but I never heard back. My nail art is a tribute to a very special cat named Link. He's one of the reason's I wanted Jackson to come here. Link belonged to a friend of mine named Kurt. He was rescued by Kurt at a flea market in 2008 and is a little on the strange side. In 2010 Kurt was diagnosed with Leukemia and was told he could no longer keep his cats due to health reasons and was forced to give up Link. At the time I had already just taken on a new kitten that showed up and had enough cats but knew Link would never make it in a shelter due to his issues.

Kurt passed away in February of 2011 and now Link is all I have left of him. It means the world to me to have saved this little guy and every time I look at him I think of my best friend.

So without further ado, here is my Link inspired nail art.

For this I used some older polishes including the base which was Cover Girl Peaches & Cream from the mid 90's. It was part of a parfait collection. I then used the saran wrap technique to add Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Man-go Team!. I hand painted the rest of the designs. The black is my trusty Sinful Colors in Black on Black and the white is also from Sinful Colors in Snow Me White. I sponged on the chin with a makeup sponge. For the eyes I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Chartreuse Chase and the nose is China Glaze textured polish in Itty, Bitty & Gritty. I smudged a bit when I used Seche Vite which isn't supposed to happen but it was perfect because his nose felt like a kitty nose. Seriously too cute for words!!!
I think sophistication and I think rockabilly 1950's. I am neither of those things. I have only wore a few red manicures in recent years and mostly upon request from the other half because he happens to find red nails to be sexy.

What I had in my head and what I finished are not the same. I ended up choosing a simple matte finish polish called Get It On by Sinful Colors from the Leather Luxe collection. These polishes are awesome. I picked up 4 of them and want to get the rest. The formula on this one was bit tricky because it did not want to level out. I then just did a simple stamp with China Glaze Ruby Pumps using Mash plate 48 for the flames. It looked way different under different lighting and I found that to be a fun and unexpected "feature" of this manicure. I preferred it with the darker shade of red and more of the obvious flame showing but it's still pretty both ways. I was warned this polish stains but it didn't really stain for me which was a plus. I wasn't over the moon with this design but I didn't hate it either. I spent way too much time figuring out what to do.
I am a bit behind in this post as the challenge actually started on the 1st of September. I have been participating just not blogging about it. Today I will be making several posts to catch myself up to speed.

What exactly is the 31 day nail art challenge? Every day for 31 days a different theme or idea is given and the participant must create nail art to match. This is the 3rd year this has been going on. There is a hashtag for this year's event to show your art off #31dc2013. Here is a list of the challenges.

Since I change my polish pretty much every day anyway I am confident I can get through this! What I am looking forward to is pushing myself to think outside the box and also get outside my own comfort zone.
Do I have a gem for you today. I recently began purchasing indie polishes online. Let's face it, I am an instant gratification kind of chick and part of my fun is getting great deals. That is, until I stumbled upon some indie polishes and timidly made my first purchase. Now my thrill is in seeking out these unique beauties and purchasing them before they are gone forever. This amazing polish I have for you today is just such a score.

Last Sunday at 4 AM I had a serious case of insomnia. I picked up my trusty iPhone 4 and began to Google for polishes. I had a desire for something milky with pastel glitters. This, my friends, is my weakness. I love all kinds of polishes but there is something enchanting about these finishes for me. By some miraculous stroke of luck, I happened upon a blog post for a polish called Carebear Stare by Lacquer Lust. Being an 80's child, I again was drawn to it. The swatches were pretty and the review was good so I impulsively added it to my cart and ordered it before I changed my mind. The polish was 8.00 with 2.50 shipping. For indies I like to stay under 10 that's my max so I got this one with the shipping for that.

The email response was prompt. I then received a second email on Tuesday 12:25 AM advising me my order was ready for shipping and a tracking number assigned. I got my polish on Wednesday people! WOW! When I got the package, my special treatment continued. I have purchased polish online before but never received anything like this.

Please excuse the messy desk but I was so excited to show it off. I will be putting it on tonight and will update this when I do. I just wanted to say how awesome I think Lacquer Lust is. I have treasured every moment of this polish purchase like none other. I will be buying from her in the future.

However, when I posted this to a forum of indie polish lovers, we soon discovered her site is only showing a pre-order for a birthstone collection and this one is nowhere to be found. While I am sad, I am extremely lucky to be able to own it. So if you want this gem, please keep trying her.
Cheers.

Almost two months after I first made this post, I realized I never posted any photos of my swatches. At the time my nails were very short and I wasn't happy with the pictures. Here is three thin coats of Carebear Stare.
Living that kind of lifestyle suited most of the residents. Those people actually chose that setting on purpose. For a teenager, that was not the case. You don't really get to experience fashion or shopping when your main source of commerce is the local feed store. I predate the internet. The only escape was to travel the hour long commute to Appleton which at the time had a population of a mere 65,000 people. This was no New York City or booming metropolis but it did have an awesome mall and much more to do than where I came from. To me, it was like the most amazing place on earth.

The mall was the very first place I had ever seen nail polish of any color that wasn't red, pink or nude. They had kiosks set up near the food court entrance filled with tiny bottles of bold colored polish. The 6 of them I purchased all were shimmer polishes. I don't remember if they had any cremes or glitters either back then but one of them is labeled as a duo-chrome polish shifting from baby blue to gold. From the labels these were manufactured by Townley Cosmetics. A quick Google search shows me they now make Hello Kitty cosmetic sets and apparently does not test on animals. I have found nothing about the shades I have or anything else about the nail polish from that long ago. While the Streetwear collection is in high demand on Ebay and has many blogs dedicated to it, I have never seen any of these anywhere online.
Most of these as you can see have been almost used up. Volcano is by far not only my favorite of this group but one of my favorites of all time. I have seen colors similar before but none an exact dupe for this shade. When I do, I will be snatching it up with a few spares as well.

Now for the swatches.

Application on these was a mess. I am certain that's because of the age and the fact I have had to add thinner to them a number of times. At one point I had to use a pliers to get some of the bottles open because they had nearly dried up and were in storage for 5 years. Hot Rod actually went on rather well and is also a favorite of mine because it's a very good Green Bay Packers green. Greena is in fact a shade of blue.

Also at the mall was a little store called Hot Topic. I don't remember the exact year that I bought these but I have 2 polishes from the Urban Decay line. Gangrene was my absolute favorite. I was a huge fan of emerald green and completely used it up. I also broke the cap at some point so what was left dried up and all I have is an empty bottle and memories! I still have a tiny bit of Gash left but will only use it for super special occasions. I loved the colors and names of these polishes. I wish I had purchased more shades when I had the chance. Some day if I feel inspired I may try my hand at Ebay and pick some up if and when I see them. I would definitely like to have another bottle of each of these.
The year was 1996. Tickle me Elmo was the hottest toy ever, Cuba Gooding, Jr. asked us to "show him the money" and Cal Ripkin, Jr. broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played streak. It was also in 1996 that Revlon launched their Streetwear line of cosmetics and a young 19 yr old deli clerk stumbled into a tiny Walgreens on lunch break and a polish obsession was born.

I didn't realize back then what exactly I was getting into but I was never a girlie girl. I liked rap music, baggy clothes and had a bit of a chip on my shoulder. I knew the moment I laid eyes on "Midnight" I had to start wearing nail polish.
I can't pick a favorite. Moody and Grass Stain both have a bit of shimmer in them which I didn't remember. Confetti has a tinted base, I am not sure if that's from age or if that was how they intended it. When I swatched over white it was really noticeable. All swatches are 2 coats with no topcoat except Hologram and Confetti which were one very thick coat just so I could show them.
What is your favorite Revlon Streetwear color?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12398095131104684260noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2829704716827839187.post-1772099969338347262013-08-19T17:06:00.000-07:002013-08-20T04:58:39.864-07:00Welcome to Miss Kitty Nails!Welcome to the very first post for Miss Kitty Nails. I wanted to start this blog so that I can share my love of nail polish and nail art with the world. I have been collecting nail polish since the mid 1990's. I kept it under control due to space limitations until purchasing a home in 2011. After finally setting up my dream room I began to go all out in early 2013.

For me, there are two parts to my polish obsession. First is the chase. I love stalking my local beauty supply and discount stores in search of the ultimate deal. In my recent hauls I have found some ridiculous deals getting Nicole by OPI polishes for example for $1.00! I try not to purchase polish at full retail prices. If I do, I usually shop around to get the best deals. I enjoy the collecting and swatching aspects so much that I would rather spend $18.00 on 15 polishes than one bottle of a higher end brand. That's just how I like to do things. I plan on sharing those deals as part of this blog so other people can see what you can get if you don't mind waiting a bit. This is not to say I don't splurge once in awhile like the case of Alcatraz...Rocks in the OPI San Francisco line. I gladly paid the $9.00 to get this now. I fully intend on purchasing a back up bottle and will wait until I find a sale for that one if possible.
The second part is the collection. I currently have 560 polishes swatched out on color wheels and a full storage drawer full of oldies I haven't gotten around to adding to my list. That does include mini's and small bottles as well. I am a hoarder by nature and tend to not get rid of anything. My favorite part of the day is coming home after shopping for polish and lining up my new purchases and adding them to the current collection. I will be reviewing and posting pictures of some of my existing collection as well as anything I purchase new from now on.
I encourage comments and conversations as well. I am a blog rookie and want to know how I am doing and any feedback is appreciated. I am in awe of some of the blogs I see and I aspire to be in that company. In my polish research when I am at stores I definitely look at what others have reviewed and used it to help make my decisions.
I thank you for reading!
